Developed by the National Dance Association, The National Dance Standards were completed as part of a project developed by the Consortium of National Arts Education Associations and prepared under a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Humanities.

What are Dance Standards? The National Dance Standards are a guide to student assessment in both content and achievement. These guides specify what students should know and be able to do in dance. The achievement portion of the standards specify the understanding and levels of achievement that students are expected to attain in specific competencies.

Why are Standards important to dancers and their families? Studying at a dance studio who follows the National Standards will help to ensure that the study of dance is disciplined and well focused. The instructor has a point of reference for assessing a student and ensuring she or he is progressing at appropriate levels.

We incorporate the most current Standards into our programs. It is just as important that a student enjoys his or her classes, as it is that she or he have quality programs which can be measured against a nationally recognized standard. Please ask if you would like to know more about the Standards.
